Bayram Tirasi/ Eid Haircut

Bayram bayagi geride kaldi. Ama bayram tatilinde babamla vakit gecirdigim sirada yazmaya firsatim olmayan bazi seyleri aktarmak istedim. Hazirlik fasli oncelikle. Bu ftorafta annem bayram ziyaretclerine hazirlik olarak kocacigini ter temiz tiras ediyor.

Eid is long over. But I still wanted to mention a few things that I did not have a chance to from my time with my dad during Eid. First the preparations. In this photo, mom is giving a clean shave to her husband ahead of Eid visitors' arrival.

FIGEN ANLATIYOR: Halis hastaneye geldiginde 93 kilo civarindaydi. Hayati boyunca kilo vermege calisti. Bir ara 61 kiloya inince endiselendik fakat dun aksam haftalik tarti seansinda 65 kilo oldugu goruldu. Oldukca iyi bir durum. Fotografta Eda Hemsire, Duygu Hemsire ve Hastabakici Engin Bey Halis'in kilo hesabini yapiyorlar. Yatakta tartildigi icin, onu cikar bunu ekle derken benim akil erdiremedigim bir hasaplama gerekiyor.

FIGEN SAYS: Halis wanted to lose weight all his life, as many of you know. When we came to the hospital, he was 93 kilos (around 205 llb). Initially we were happy about him losing weight. But at some point through his stay, he got as low as 61 kilos, leading is to worry a little and adjust his nutrition. He is now 65 and that is very good for him. In this picture, the nurses Eda, Duygu and Engin are calculating his weight. Because they measure it while he is lying down, they do a complicated set of calculations which are beyond me...

Sid Islam cam sanati uzmani ve yillarca Saint Louis Muzesinde calisarak henuz emekli oldu. Kendisi blogu takip etmekte oldugundan Halis'i gorunce az cok nasil bir tabloyla karsilasacagini biliyordu.Uzun, tatli bir sohbet oldu, anlatan Sid, dinleyen Halis olarak.Sid'in Ingilizce konusmasi ayrica bir uyaran olmustur diye dusunduk. Tesekkurler Sid, vefali dost. (FIGEN)

On September 29, Halis had a friend from afar visiting. The friendship between Halis and Sid Goldstein go way back, to 1966 Sardis archeological excavation in the Aegean region. Sid eventually went onto becoming an Islamic art and glass expert and has recently retired from one of America's major museums, the Saint Louis Art Museum. He had been following the blog, and decided to come to Istanbul following an event he was attending in Athens. He knew more or less what to expect because of the blog. They had a long conversation and Halis listened to Sid intently. I was hoping hearing English might be a stimulant for Halis. Thank you Sid for coming by. You have been a loyal good friend.
